WHICH PROGRAM IS FOR YOU?
MOGULS OR FREESKI . . . YOU HAVE A CHOICE!

MOGULS/AERIALS

Our mogul/aerials program offers training for every level of skier. The competitive mogul and learn to ski/learn to ski mogul programs are lift access from the Palmer chairlift on the upper Palmer Snowfield.   During your session, our coaches will help you to improve your mogul skiing by teaching you the solid fundamentals and correct technique for jump execution.  Your goals will be assessed and a safe and successful progression will be planned for you to achieve the best results.  From mogul technique, to learning new aerial tricks, all skiers will develop new skills.  All of our coaches have strong coaching and skiing backgrounds and are passionate about their sport.  Coaches are here to teach you and enable you to achieve your goals, and we are always stoked to ski with motivated skiers like you.

Competitive Moguls: The competitive mogul program is for kids, adults, and mogul teams that are interested in taking their skills to the next level. Our 1/2 mile long mogul lane is shaped by snowcat and finished by hand to make mogul terrain equal to 3 World Cup courses stacked on top of each other. Three world cup jumps and a huge table top at the bottom of the lane give competitors the greatest competitive mogul terrain in North America. We have hosted many teams including Stratton Freestyle and the U.S. Freestyle Team.

Learn to Ski/Learn to Mogul:  The Learn to Ski Better program is for skiers interested in improving their general skiing skills, for skiers interested in mogul and all-mountain skiing, and for anyone who wants to become a stronger skier. The lift access mogul terrain is next to the competitive mogul terrain but includes smaller bumps and a skill progression that allows athletes to progress into more challenging bumps/moguls. Jumping is accomplished on easier jumps.  Our mogul coaches may even take the group over to our race lanes for a run or two of slalom or GS to get a taste of ski racing as well.   We teach a skill progression designed for learning to become a stronger skier. Our mogul campers have the added benefit of shorter lift lines later in the day, when the snow softens up and the race camps move off the hill. Mogul campers also have the opportunity to spend some time in our private terrain park on lower Palmer.

FREESKI/AERIALS/TERRAIN PARK

JUMPS, BOXES, & RAILS...WE HAVE IT ALL!
Can't do a 360? Having trouble landing that 720? Our coaches can help!  MHSSC operates it's own private park for freeskiers and snowboarders. The terrain park is shaped every day by our diggers to accommodate the campers’ individual learning goals.  There are features for every level to provide a steady progression through to the week’s end.  We have 3 large jumps of 20', 40' and 50' as well as a progression of small ones to help get the beginning freeskier into the air. We have a total of 13 rails, boxes and jib features to pick from; starting with the smallest ones early in the session and progressing to the bigger twisted ones later in the week.  If you want to learn how to do rails and challenge yourself on a progression of rails and jumps, then our park on "Lower Cuervo" is the spot to be.

coach Darren doing video analysis Every day we Videotape your mogul/aerial/terrain park training.  Then you and your coaches get together and figure out what you can work on.  Video analysis is one of the most powerful learning tools available to you and will help you achieve your goals faster. At the end of the week, you can purchase a copy of your video.

Trampoline training:  Not sure about trying a new aerial trick?
You can first try it out on one of our two on campus trampolines.  Our freestyle coaches offer trampoline training as an afternoon activity.  One of our trampolines is set up with a safety harness, so you can first learn a new trick off snow before giving it a try on the mountain the next day.

WHY COME TO MT. HOOD FOR TRAINING?

Mt. Hood's Palmer Glacier is North America's only year round resort. In the early morning hours when the snow is more firm, we work on technique and skill building on the flatter groomed areas, then as the day warms up and the snow softens, we move our training to the moguls and jumps.  Daily video analysis, good weather, and off-snow trampoline training makes Mt Hood the perfect learning environment. One week at MHSSC can be equivalent to one season of training at your home hill!

WHO SHOULD COME TO CAMP?
Advanced mogul skiers and those who want to learn to master the moguls or simply learn to ski better. Campers must love skiing and bring a desire to improve. We are a camp for motivated skiers only. 80% of campers are between the ages of 10-18. We accept skiers as young as 9 but they must be emotionally ready to spend a week or two away from home. Skiers between the ages of 5 and 8 can attend camp but are required to stay with their parents.  Adult campers can improve at camp also. They stay at the Mt. Hood Inn, away from the kids.

For group or team camps, email john@mthood.com or call us at 503-337-2230.

MT. HOOD
11,235 foot Mt. Hood is the only 12 month ski area in North America. Mogul training takes place on the Palmer Glacier as well as some freeskiing on the Zig Zag Glacier in the early summer. With two express quad chairs and 2500' vertical,  you have the opportunity to get in a lot of quality training in a short period of time. Mt. Hood weather is highly variable with mid-winter conditions likely at any time, so be prepared. Winter clothing, and rain gear should be brought as well as summer clothing. Layers work best at Mt. Hood. As it warms during the day, you'll take the layers off and stow them in your backpack. Sun protection is very important, Skiing at the 8,500 foot level is hazardous to the skin and eyes if not well protected. You must bring a good pair of sun glasses, dark lens goggles and #15 (or higher) sunscreen.  We also recommend that you train wearing a helmet

    AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES
MHSSC's philosophy is to have fun in the afternoons doing things you may not have the opportunity to do at home.  We aren't a hard core dryland camp, but instead offer some fun alternatives in the afternoons.  Our choices include: whitewater rafting, rockclimbing, trampoline, soccer, cliff jumping, hiking, mountain biking, volleyball, windsurfing, paintball, softball, golf-cage, unicycle, challenge course and tennis (we have our own clay court).   Where else can you snow ski and whitewater raft in the same day?!
