AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES

MHSSC's philosophy is to have fun in the afternoons doing things you may not have the opportunity to do at home. We aren't a hard core dryland camp, but instead offer some fun alternatives in the afternoons. Our choices include: white water rafting, rockclimbing, trampoline, soccer, cliff jumping, hiking, mountain biking, volleyball, windsurfing, paintball, softball, golf-cage, unicycle, challenge course and tennis (we have our own clay court). Where else can you ski and whitewater raft in the same day?! Check out the afternoon activities video below.

  • White Water Rafting
  • Rockclimbing
  • Trampoline
  • Paintball
  • Cliff Jumping

Our whitewater rafting trips are on the Deschutes River about 45 minute drive east from here in Oregon’s High Desert. The trip begins at Harpham Flats and goes down river to Sandy Beach. To go rafting, you should wear your bathing suit and a pair of old tennis shoes, TEVA sandals or something to protect your feet. You will need sunscreen, a towel, and dry clothing for when you are done. The cost of rafting is $40. The rapids are class 2 and class 3. If you fall out of the raft, go down the river feet first so you can bounce off the rocks, and remember to hold onto your paddle. You will have a guide and YOU MUST BE WEARING A LIFE JACKET AT ALL TIMES ON THE RIVER (no exceptions!) Expect to get WET! Water fights are part of the adventure. You might want to bring an extra few dollars for a snack or a drink on the way home.

Rockclimbing is one of our most popular activities. We have a couple of secret climbing spots in the area that offers climbs suited for every ability level. No previous rock climbing experience is necessary. Most kids that come climbing it’s their first time ever. What to bring: sweatshirt/sweatpants (we climb in a cool shaded area) and a water bottle. If you have your own climbing shoes/harness, bring it, but we have shoes and harnesses for those that don’t. Learn some edging skills that can apply to your ski race training. Improve your balance, overcome your fear of heights, challenge yourself to get to the top!

Trampoline training is a great way to learn new tricks before trying them on the snow. Improve your balance and overall body awareness with this activity.

Play a number of different paintball games in our own secret wooded area west of the lodge. We provide the guns and one hopper full of ammo for $40. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and be ready for a good time.

We take the kids to a secret spot for cliff jumping. We can't even name it, so other people might go looking for it.

Try out our on-campus ropes challenge course. This activity includes a ZIP-LINE, and a suspended LOG-WALK. Campers are tied into a safety harness and a rope lowering system to allow for campers to safely lower to the ground on each of these features. We also have ground level obstacle/agility ropes course and slackline.

Where do we go? We have a new biking trail out back of our lodge that we call our "Tour de Lodge" course, built by snowboard race coach Nick Colavito. It's a couple miles long and includes beginner and expert level routes. Many features along the way, including teeter-totters, log jumps, bridges, shark pits, etc. We supply the bikes and helmets.

You can hang out on the beach, or try your hand at windsurfing, kayaking, kite flying, paddle boarding and swimming. All our windsurf boards are big and floaty with a choice of sails for beginners or experts. We take our lake sports group to Clear Lake, which is famous for afternoon wind, sunny skies, and scenic beauty. Bring your sunscreen and water bottle.

Come and work on your skate skills on our two ramps and multiple rails. We also offer trips to local skate parks for the hardcore skaters. Helmets are required!

We take our kids down to a premiere disc golf course in Estacada, OR. We also have a 9 hole course on our MHSSC campus.
